A beautiful cover may earn a click, but can a buyer tell what they will receive? For a digital planner or Canva template, listing images should answer practical questions before the purchase: what pages are included, what can be edited, what format arrives and what the finished work looks like.

Etsy’s official image guidance explains supported image formats and presentation considerations. Review it when exporting because platform requirements can change. For digital files, also check Etsy’s digital listing instructions. These distinguish an instant download from a made-to-order item.

Give every image a job

Plan your gallery like a short walkthrough. You do not need to fill every possible image slot. Start with a sequence that answers real buyer questions:

  1. Cover: Name the product and show a genuine page or design large enough to read.
  2. What is included: Show the number and types of pages or templates accurately.
  3. Close-up: Let buyers inspect a useful detail at a realistic size.
  4. In use: Show an actual template in a phone feed or planner page in a device frame, without hiding its content.
  5. Formats and access: State whether the buyer receives a PDF, editable Canva link, printable file or combination.
  6. How it works: Explain download, editing and any account requirement in a few readable steps.

If the bundle has 52 pages, show a representative selection and make the total count accurate. A mockup should illustrate the real product, not replace it with unrelated sample designs.

Design for a small screen

Open your images on a phone before uploading. Keep the key message short and high contrast. If the product itself contains small text, add a close-up image rather than cramming every page into the cover. Choose a consistent visual style while varying the angle: overview, detail, contents and use case.

For editable Canva products, show at least one original template page clearly. Say what the buyer can edit, and distinguish editable elements from fixed artwork or mockup decoration. Avoid implying that a device, printed item or physical package is included if the sale is digital.

Match the gallery to the delivered files

Make a buyer test: read the listing as if you know nothing about the product. Can you identify its contents, dimensions or intended use, file types, delivery method, and whether another account is needed? Download a test copy or inspect your delivery files. Etsy’s buyer download guidance can help you describe the experience accurately.

Improve with buyer questions

Repeated pre-purchase messages reveal what your images have not answered. If shoppers keep asking whether a planner is printable, add a format image. If they ask how to get an editable link, explain the delivery steps. Watch whether visitors click but do not purchase, but do not assume images are the only cause; pricing, relevance and the product itself also matter.

Quick questions

Should every image be a mockup? No. Use mockups for context and direct page previews for clarity.

Can I show a bundle collage? Yes, if several components remain legible. Follow it with closer examples.

What should I do today? Check your first three images on a phone. Ask someone unfamiliar with the product to describe exactly what they think they would receive.
